The first volume received a review from Deb Aoki at About.com who gave it an overall grade of "B+" writing that "Yen Press' release may be worth buying just for all the extras. Fans of the manga will want to pick it up so they can dive deeper into this dark, violent series with its strong female lead, Akame." Volume 2 received a review from Carla Smith writing for Manga Bookshelf who wrote that "So, how does the second volume of Akame Ga Kill stack up? Well, it’s definitely not as good as volume one. In fact, it’s pretty bad. The story is just getting bogged down in all the same old things that have been done before." However she did give a positive review saying that "The art was a little improved and the action scenes were better drawn overall. I have to say that the art is pretty much what drew me to this series in the first place. It’s very detailed and each character has their own unique style. The action scenes are portrayed well and I found myself taking a lot of time looking at details like facial expressions and backgrounds." She finished her review by saying "I still had a good time with this volume and will be continuing on with the series." The third volume also received a review from Deb Aoki at About.com where she gave it an overall grade of "B+" stating that "Akame Ga Kill! is one of those rare manga series that kicks ass by starting off as something of conventional shonen manga, but then growing into something more. So I’m glad that Yen Press has jumped on board and is releasing the manga in English. It’s well worth buying the English-language edition of the manga especially if you want to read something close to the original Japanese version." Volume 4 was number 12 on "The New York Times" Graphic Books Best Seller Manga list and ranked as one of "USA Today's" Top 10 Graphic Novels of July 3, 2014. cfa1e77820
