A true "discovery" of the post-World War II era, Zubeidaa is a 1955 Indian Hindi film made by Sohrab Modi and starring Vyjayanthimala and Pran. Known for its musical score by C. Ramchandra, the film was an instant hit upon release and ran for more than 75 weeks in theatres. The film also stars Prem Adeeb, Shashikala, David Abraham Cheulkar and Raj Mehra. One of the songs "Naino Mein Sapna" is based on "Bésame Mucho". The popular song "Awaara Hoon" was later used in the movie "Howrah Bridge" (1958). The film was remade in Telugu as "Tillana Mohini", starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, which also became a huge box office success. The Hindi film "Qurbani" (1980), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman, was also produced by Sohrab Modi. Many elements of "Zubeidaa" were repeated in the 1980 film, including the screenplay, cinematography, music and dance sequences.
